Antique 18K Yellow White Gold Cigarette Case Guilloché Sapphire Cabochon 106.5g
Exceptional Antique 18K Two-Tone Gold Cigarette Case — Continental European, Circa 1920s–1940s
A truly museum-quality objet d'art, this substantial cigarette case is crafted entirely in 18-karat yellow gold and represents the pinnacle of European goldsmithing from the Art Deco / Retro period.
Construction & Design: The exterior faces feature exquisitely executed engine-turned guilloché texturing — a fine hand-machined pattern covering the entire gold surface — interrupted by bold horizontal white gold inlaid stripes of varying widths. This sophisticated two-tone treatment in yellow and white gold is a signature of elite Continental European makers of the 1920s–1940s.
All four edges on both faces are framed by a precisely engraved Greek key (meander) border — a neoclassical motif executed with extraordinary precision and consistent with high-grade French and Swiss work of this era.
Clasp: The push-button release is set with a bezel-mounted cabochon gemstone in a deep blue-gray color, consistent with a natural sapphire. The bezel setting is executed in yellow gold.
Interior: The interior retains its original gold-washed metal liners and the original woven yellow grosgrain ribbon divider — color-coordinated to the gold exterior — used to secure cigarettes. The piano-style full-length hinge is tight and functions perfectly.
Hallmarks: The interior wall is stamped with "750" — the Continental European metric hallmark for 18-karat gold — along with what appears to be an additional maker's or assay mark. Photos of all hallmarks included.
Weight & Metal: At 106.5 grams of 18K gold, this piece has a gold melt value exceeding $12,000 at current spot prices, making it an exceptional value for a collector who also appreciates intrinsic metal content.
Condition: Very good vintage condition consistent with age and use. Exterior guilloché and Greek key borders are crisp and well-preserved. Minor surface wear to white gold stripes. Interior lining shows age patina typical of pieces from this era. No dents, no repairs, no monograms. Hinge functions perfectly.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a substantial, high-karat gold antique of exceptional craftsmanship. Pieces of this quality, weight, and style regularly appear at major auction houses including Christie's, Sotheby's, and Bonhams.
